The LNG receiving terminal has transported over 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas abroad

On April 30, 2026, the LNG receiving terminal witnessed a historic moment: the cumulative volume of natural gas transported abroad successfully exceeded 100 billion cubic meters. Since its completion and commissioning in May 2011, as China's first large-scale LNG receiving terminal independently designed, constructed and operated, the LNG receiving terminal has been safely in operation for nearly fifteen years, and has received over 850 LNG vessels from 29 countries and regions including Qatar, Australia and Russia. One hundred billion cubic meters of natural gas, calculated by calorific value, is equivalent to replacing about 130 million tons of coal, reducing 250 million tons of carbon dioxide, 2.29 million tons of sulfur dioxide and 1.19 million tons of smoke dust. The ecological benefits are equivalent to planting 500 million trees, providing a solid support for the green transformation of the energy structure in the Yangtze River Delta region.

The LNG receiving terminal is currently one of the receiving terminals with the strongest peak shaving and supply guarantee capacity and the highest load rate in the Yangtze River Delta region. At present, the entire station has 6 large storage tanks with a total capacity of 1.08 million cubic meters and a gas storage capacity of 670 million cubic meters. When fully loaded, it can meet the gas demand of 23 million households for a continuous month. The natural gas transported from this station is connected to the national main pipeline network through the Rudong Branch Line, reaching the Shaanxi-Beijing System in the north and the West-East Gas Pipeline Line in the south. The maximum daily capacity for natural gas transportation can reach 40 million cubic meters, and during peak periods, it can meet about 30% of Jiangsu Province's natural gas demand. During each peak winter and summer electricity supply guarantee period, this station has always maintained the principle of "transmitting as much as possible and operating at full capacity", effectively stabilizing regional gas price fluctuations.

As an "independent demonstration project" in the field of LNG receiving terminals in China, LNG receiving terminals have made breakthrough progress in the localization of equipment. From the early reliance on imported key equipment to the current situation where the domestic production rate of core equipment such as unloading arms, high-pressure pumps, and vaporizers exceeds 90%, and maintenance costs have dropped by over 60%, a total of more than 170 independent innovation achievements have been formed, effectively breaking the foreign technological monopoly. Looking to the future, the receiving station is accelerating the construction of the fourth phase of the project, planning to add two super-large storage tanks with a capacity of 270,000 cubic meters. After commissioning, the total tank capacity will increase to 1.62 million cubic meters, and the annual unloading capacity will exceed 10 million tons, further enhancing the external transportation capacity.
